Lush islands with white sand beaches, a warm tropical climate, some of the friendliest people you could ever hope to meet, incredible diving and snorkeling, luxurious resorts with world-class children’s programs, a huge choice of accommodation and activities… these are just a few of the reasons that Fiji is the most popular family holiday destination for Australians. Oh, and it’s all just a few hours’ direct flight away.
Cool Season: May to November. Average temperatures range from 19–26C.
Hot Season: December to May. Average temperatures range from 24-31C.
Most Australian families prefer to visit in the cool season, when the humidity is lower and there is less likelihood of encountering tropical storms.
If you’re new to Fiji, then the wealth of accommodation options can be confusing. We can personally help you navigate through them to choose the perfect resort for your family, but here’s a brief run-down of some of our favourites:
In Fiji they use the Fijian Dollar. ATM are available at most major towns centres. Major credit card are available in all resorts, however they may charge a surcharge. Currency exchange is also available at Nadi/Suva Airport, most resorts and in the banks in town centres.
Passports must have a validity of at least 6 months from your arrival date back in Australia – you also must have an onward ticket. A visa is not required for tourist entry into Fiji if you are travelling on an Australia Passport.
The current in Fiji is 240 volts AC 50Hz with three-pin power points – the same as in Australia. All your appliances from Australia will work in Fiji – so you will not require an adaptor.
Fiji has a tropical climate – day time temperatures vary between 31 degrees Celsius in the summer months (December to February) and 28 degrees Celsius in the Winter months (June to August) – making it almost perfect year round.
Fiji’s ‘wet season’ is from November to April, with the heaviest rains and highest humidity from December to mid-April. Plus side of this is less tourist and better deals!
Best time to visit Fiji is during their winter months/dry season which is from May to October. This generally brings much lower rainfall and lower humidity, slightly milder – although still perfect temperatures for swimming – plus you get to escape the Australian winter.
One thing you can never guarantee is the weather – but even when it is raining, the Fijians are smiling.
